About
My name is Darren McDuffie and I launched this blog in July 2011.
The goal was to create a site which provided advice for women on nutrition, health, and fitness. It seems like a simple thing to do, but how do you provide the real truth to women when most of the material marketed to them is based on misinformation?
There are many diet companies and media publications who prey on women’s insecurities with their weight. These companies promote their image of what they think a woman should look like right down to the size of the dress she must wear to be “perfect”. Most of them never take into account weight isn’t a woman’s main concern as she ages but a by product of her desire to be healthy.
My blog may offend some people or seem so far fetched that you might think I’m crazy and that’s ok! I want to make you think and I want to make you ask questions! This blog may not be for every one but it is for those women who believe they can be healthy at any age.
This Site is Dedicated to My Mother
For years, I watched my mother care for my sister and I, selflessly. She is and will always be the strongest and most courageous woman I know. I learned so much from her about patience, love, and understanding.
Why listen to me?
I have seen life from all angles. I was a pharmaceutical representative for a major pharmaceutical company for a number of years. During those years, I loss my faith in the medical system as I watched my mom undergo chemotherapy which eventually caused her to have problems with her hands and heart. In addition to the problems it caused her physically, it also wounded her spirit and it left a lasting effect on me. My mother passed away from complications from breast cancer the day after Thanksgiving 2005. I will always remember that day as my” rebirth” as I was 35 pounds overweight and her death inspired me to lose weight and seek answers about nutrition. Those answer ultimately led me to being a fitness trainer.
I watched my mother go through many of the same problems women have today. Most women gain weight as they become older and then resort to a diet to help them get thin again…this becomes a cycle. I want to cut through all the things that don’t work and give women the tools necessary to get off the diet wheel forever!
I love comments
Always feel free to ask questions and leave comments. I have to approve all the comments and sometimes it may take me awhile but I will approve them. By commenting you create a dialogue which may prompt me to answer a question that someone out there may be afraid to ask or it may intrigue them to a point where they want to research a topic more. This is always good! Your comment may also give someone insight or just brighten their day, you never know. Please leave a comment every now and then and let me know you’re breathing. I want to hear what you like, what you don’t like, or any experiences you’ve had.
Gratitude
It is a very lonely thing to just write articles and not get feedback from readers. While I appreciate the likes, tweets, and stumbles, I really like hearing from you. I am grateful for you as a reader and hope you will put everything you learn on this blog into practice so you can really take control of your health.
Yours in health,
Darren “Health with a Heart” McDuffie
